In the nose, this Chardonnay has an elegant cohesion to it that is heightened by aromatic notes of orange peel, Gravenstein apple, and perfectly balanced sur lie characteristics. The wine was aged in 100% French oak barrels, 40% of which were new (Billon, Rousseau) for about 14 months.
In the mouth, this wine shows a wonderful tension between fruit and acidity. On entry there is a momentum of flavor and structure that is compelling; the wine has a richness that is never ponderous, and an acidity that highlights the elegant fruit, sur lie, and malolactic notes as well as contributing to an extremely long and mineral-laden finish. This acidity also makes this wine a perfect accompaniement to a wide range of food choices.
