In the nose, this Chardonnay has an elegant cohesion to it that is heightened by aromatic notes of orange peel, Gravenstein apple, and perfectly balanced sur lie characteristics. The wine was aged in 100% French oak barrels, 40% of which were new (Billon, Rousseau) for about 14 months.
Our mission at La Rochelle is a simple one: to make California’s best, most interesting, most collectable Pinot Noir. My family introduced the Pinot Noir grape to California in the 1850s. Today, we partner with the state’s most renowned Pinot Noir vineyards – Garys’. Sleepy Hollow. Rosella’s. Londer. Paraiso. Tondre. Farrington. Deer Park. We craft Pinot Noir grown on these famed estates that let the individual vineyard’s terroir, its special sense of place, shine through. My great-great-great grandfather left the French port of La Rochelle one hundred and sixty years ago on a voyage of possibilities. Our journey at La Rochelle Winery is an equally exciting one: to discover the best Pinot Noir vineyards and translate those exceptional estates into limited releases worthy of our heritage. If your passion is Pinot, then your journey has led you to the right place… - Steven Kent Mirassou
The 2009 Pinot Meunier, Fours Sisters Vineyard exhibits wonderfully intense plummy fruit and spiciness in the nose. In the mouth, there is plum too, but a plum more akin to that concentrated flavor in hoisin sauce. The fruit in this wine resembles in acid and strucutre the Pinot Noir that grows nearby on the La Cruz vineyard site…the chief difference being a more rustic sensibility to it…Pinot Noir’s country cousin. Replete with layers of fruit and an all-encompassing structure built on acidity, this wine, with proper storage, should age beautifully for many years.
The 2008 offering is a 16-barrel blend comprised of 12 barrels of Martini clone and 4 of clone 113. This blend mix has been consistent from vintage to vintage as we like the interplay of bright fruit, tannin, and non-fruit aromatics from the heritage clone and the dark-fruit flavors and viscosity from 113.
